Meet The Staff

Melissa

Office Manager

Joined GFD in 2020

Melissa came to us from New Jersey by way of her military husband. And you know we just love a military family at GFD…so Melissa is fitting right in!

Melissa loves the challenge of managing a team…her knack for organization and her ability to thrive under pressure help her navigate the waters at GFD. Melissa worked for many years at a specialist’s office, and most recently at a multi-specialty practice.  Melissa is excited to bring her skill set to GFD, and she loves the people you get to meet in the dental field. She began her career in the medical field as a medical assistant, but found dentistry is where her passion lies, and has developed that passion into a career.

Melissa adores her husband and three children…she can’t get enough of them! When Melissa isn’t in the office, this easy-going vegan tends to her 22’ x 22’ fruit and veggie garden…and you can also find Melissa savoring a cup of coffee and admiring her flower beds on the weekends.

Melissa has a Puerto Rican and Italian background, and she loves to cook empanadas, arroz con gandules and lasagna…we can’t wait for the next office pot luck!

Fun Fact: “I do my own nails…acrylics…just like the salon…and I’m actually really good at it!”

Samantha

Financial Coordinator

Joined GFD in 2009

Sam, as she's known around the office, is Gentle Family Dentistry's Financial Coordinator. She has been in the dental industry for 20 years. Sam is a wonderful patient advocate who strives to help a patient understand their benefits. She is happy to submit claims to reap the maximum benefit from your plan. Sam takes pride in being a problem-solver, and will answer questions for a patient at any time. Her knowledge of benefits is extensive, and she is a true asset to the practice.

Sam first came to Maryland when her spouse, who was then in the military, transferred to Maryland. Sam grew up in South Jersey, but she and her husband have come to love the Maryland lifestyle and decided to stay. And it really helps that there is a Jersey Mikes in Dunkirk now...it's like a little taste of home! Sam is always active. When not in the office, you will find Sam hiking, sewing, playing Xbox, or working on the latest home project with her husband. She loves rustic vacations that include hiking, mountains and pine trees...Colorado is a favorite travel destination of hers, but her trip to Banff takes the cake for her! And Sam recently had a baby...a beautiful boy! She'll have the mom/work balance down to a science in no time!

FUN FACT: "I am a music lover...I've played 5 different instruments...2 of which were self-taught. I have been to tons and tons of concerts, and I have downloaded roughly 20,000 songs."

Angela

Account and Patient Care Specialist

Joined GFD in 2014

Angela is our Account and Patient Care Specialist. She has been in the dental field for approximately eight years, but has been in the medical field for 12 years. She is well versed in insurance billing, but we think one of her greatest talents is making a patient smile at check out. She is witty and timely, and is always striving to help patients complete their care in the most economical way possible. And if she can make you laugh while she's scheduling your treatment...it's a good day!

Angela is originally a New Yorker, but she most recently lived in Florida. She was thrilled to move back up north and enjoy the four seasons again. Angela is loving the wonderful things to do and see that the D.C. area is known for. She went to Tennessee with her son, sister and nephew recently, and had a fantastic time! You can often find Angela staying busy on the weekends...her cottage business, BITE ME Cupcakes & Cakes by Angela, (check out her Facebook page) is rapidly expansing, so she is often whipping up a batch of cupcakes or a custom cake order - take it from us, they are amazing!

FUN FACT: "I still sleep with the teddy bear my dad gave me the day I was born...I even take it on vacation!"

Michelle

Scheduling Coordinator

Joined GFD in 2016

Michelle is the first friendly face you will see when you walk through the doors at GFD! She is a Maryland transplant, and we are thrilled she found her way to GFD. Michelle grew up in the Midwest, and came to Maryland when her husband received a military transfer. She has over 25 years in customer service, and we feel she is the perfect Scheduling Coordinator because she believes we should treat patients the way we would want to be treated. Michelle really enjoys relating to our patients on a personal level and makes everyone feel like they are important and welcome.

When not at work, Michelle loves spending time with her twin 16 year old daughters and husband...although her twins couldn't be more different! Family is everything to her. She makes an amazing Peanut Butter Blossom cookie, and has a soft spot for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a team player, and loves to join the gang when we plan an outing...whether it is volunteering at the End Hunger warehouse, or cheering on our Dragon Boat team! She and her husband dream of retiring in Tennessee, and her Tater Tot casserole is her latest yummy recipe she created!

Brooke is from a military family, which is how she found Southern MD. She loves to support anything involving cancer causes or animals…this is where her heart lies. The perfect weekend for Brooke is spending time with friends and family, eating popcorn and snuggling with her cats.

FUN FACT: “I am obsessed with Disney everything!”

Kacie

Certified Dental Assistant

Re-Joined GFD in 2019

The sun is shining down on us at GFD because Kacie is back! She left us in 2017 when her military husband had a job transfer to Illinois. But the call of the Chesapeake Bay was too much for them to ignore, and they longed to be back in Calvert County. Long story short…her husband retired from the military, they bought back the EXACT same house they lived in before, her girls are over the moon to be back with their old friends, and she’s back at GFD! Tell us that wasn’t meant to be!

Kacie is even back to her old work schedule and fell right back into the travel softball lifestyle with her girls. Life is good for Kacie as she settles into her old routine and gets to enjoy the Chesapeake Bay, Patuxent River and nature trails in Calvert. Plus, she’s a big crab-eater…and there’s nobody that knows crabs like a Marylander (native or transplant).  And her North Dakota sweetness is still the best thing about her!

FUN FACT: "I won the anchor-throwing contest at the boat show in Solomons...I won a 3 foot trophy!"

Sydne

Certified Dental Assistant

Joined GFD in 2019

Sydne is a part-time Dental Assistant at GFD, and we couldn’t be happier to have her! It is virtually impossible to ruffle her feathers…she’s cool as a cucumber! And maybe that comes from the time she spends on the golf course…and she’s really good! (We should really schedule some GFD group golf lessons.)

She is attending dental hygiene school in Baltimore, plus works for us, plus works another PT job, AND fits in time for golf, rescue animals and memory-making adventures with her husband! She loves seafood and Asian cuisine…and says popcorn and chocolate are her favorite snacks. She is excited to be part of the GFD team and is excited about getting involved in the Calvert and So. AA communities!

FUN FACT: "I've been playing golf competitively since I was 8."

Nasha

Certified Dental Assistant

Nasha is a natural storyteller and loves connecting with patients and team members through her stories.

Prior to her career as a Dental Assistant, Nasha served six years in the Air Force, and is proud to have earned various coins through her military accomplishments. Nasha loves her two sons more than anything, but coffee, thrift shopping, shoes and the beach are really high on her list of her favorite things.

Nasha grew up in Annapolis and Hawaii. Nasha has a love for Spam musubi (Spam sushi) and Puerto Rican pastales (like a tamale). When we asked Nasha where’s the best place order pastales locally…without hesitation, she said nowhere. She said she has Puerto Rican roots on her maternal side. So her mom still makes pastales from scratch because her mom can’t find a restaurant to replicate her family recipe.

Nasha also loves having a close-knit family and has a soft spot for feeding the homeless.

FUN FACT: "I was accepted to Penn State and Chaney, but decided to join the USAF instead."

Barb has a knack for great sealants on teeth, and believes they are an important part of optimizing the benefits of regular visits to the dentist. Barb is Laser Certified.

Barb moved to Calvert County in 1979 and she's never looked back. She raised her family in Calvert County, and is lucky to still have all her grown children living close by.
